Canelo Alvarez returns to the ring Saturday as a title challenger for the first time since his 2022 loss to Dmitry Bivol. He faces WBC super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a fight that begins at 1 p.m. ET on DAZN pay-per-view.

Alvarez enters the bout with a record of 63 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws. His last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025. Mbilli holds a record of 29 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. He won the WBC interim title in June 2025 by defeating Maciej Sulecki and was elevated to full champion in January after the WBC stripped Crawford of the belt.

Bookmakers list Alvarez as the favorite despite his smaller frame. DraftKings odds show Alvarez at -330 to win the fight and -135 to win by decision or technical decision. The longest odds on the board are +10,000 for Mbilli to win in the first three rounds. The shortest odds for a specific round outcome are +2000 for Alvarez to win in Round 8 or 9.

Alvarez has far more experience at the highest level. He turned professional in October 2005 and has fought in 28 major title fights, winning 25. Mbilli has never fought for a full world title and has competed twice for interim belts. Neither fighter has been knocked down in their professional careers. They have no common opponents across a combined 98 professional fights.

CompuBox data reveals starkly different fighting styles. Mbilli averages 78 punches per round, which is 27 more than the division average of 51. Alvarez is more economical, averaging 35.1 punches per round. Mbilli also throws 57.7 power punches per round and lands 26.6. Alvarez throws 19.6 power punches per round and lands 8.8.

Over a 12-round distance, both fighters connect at rates above the division average of 36.1%. Mbilli lands 46.1% of his power punches, while Alvarez lands 44.9%. Defense remains a key factor for Alvarez, whose opponents land only 31.2% of their power punches. That is the sixth best rate among champions and contenders at the weight.

The jab is a weakness for both men. Mbilli lands 3.8 jabs per round out of 20.3 thrown, for a 18.7% success rate. Alvarez lands 3.5 jabs out of 15.5 thrown, for a 22.6% success rate. Both figures fall below the division average of 4.2 jabs landed per round.
