Library Services: Downtown Everett Branch Shuts Down for November
Major exterior and HVAC repairs will force the main branch to close for one month, with extended hours available at the nearby Evergreen location.

Patrons of the downtown Everett library must switch to the Evergreen Branch for all services through November. The main building is undergoing essential structural and mechanical work that will keep it inaccessible to the public for the entire month.
City officials explained that the construction involves fixing the exterior of the building and repairing the heating and ventilation systems. The project requires periodic power outages, which will interrupt climate control. Workers will also operate cranes outside the facility, creating dust, odors, and loud noise inside the space.
A note on the city library website stated that the temporary closure allows the repair crew to work safely. The administration cited the decision as a way to minimize unexpected interruptions to service quality during the construction period.
The Evergreen Branch remains open during the downtown closure. To accommodate displaced readers, that location will open two hours earlier than usual on Thursdays and Saturdays. Patrons with reserved items can collect their holds at this branch. Staff will reach out individually to people who had scheduled meetings in the main library’s conference room to arrange new times.
The downtown branch is scheduled to reopen on Dec. 1. The city provided the URL epls.org/hvac for additional details regarding the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning project.
