The 2026 NFL trade deadline is approaching, and the Chicago Bears have made the most aggressive move of the season by acquiring Jeffery Simmons. The transaction, finalized on Oct. 29, involved a steep financial cost that has immediately reshaped the team's defensive structure.
Simmons joined the Bears for a package that included a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, and a 2027 fourth-round pick. In exchange, the Tennessee Titans received those three selections. This deal represents the Bears betting their future draft capital on a player who has earned All-Pro honors multiple times.
The impact was visible in Chicago's first game with the new acquisition. On Oct. 29, the Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17. Simmons recorded a sack and led the team with six tackles. This performance helped secure a win that put the Bears in a strong position within their division.
The Indianapolis Colts have also been active sellers, moving two key defensive players in a single day on Oct. 27. They traded DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick. Buckner had spent six years in Indianapolis before returning to the 49ers, who originally drafted him in 2016.
On the same day, the Colts sent Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle gave up a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick for the six-time All-Pro offensive lineman. Nelson did not start his first game in a Seahawks uniform, as his team lost to the Bears. However, the move addresses a long-term need for Seattle's offensive line.
Other transactions have occurred in the past month. The Houston Texans acquired Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 11. The Texans received the wide receiver and a 2027 seventh-round pick, while the Cardinals got a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. Harrison has played in two games for Houston, catching a touchdown reception in Week 7.
The Baltimore Ravens traded for center Cam Jurgens from the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 7. Baltimore received Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick, while Philadelphia got a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. This move allowed the Ravens to move Olaivavega Ioane to right guard. The Dallas Cowboys also added cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 1, receiving him in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick and a vested 2027 sixth-round pick.
