Residents in Washington County can now buy the Portland-based popcorn and snacks from Joe Brown’s Carmel Corn without driving to the Lloyd Center. The shop will officially open its new store inside the Washington Square mall at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. The location occupies a spot in the second floor food court at 9585 S.W. Washington Square Road. Customers will have access to the same menu items the shop has sold for decades, including Carmel corn, cookies, banana pudding, and cheesecake.

The business has operated in Portland since 1932. By the mid-1930s, it had expanded to three locations in the city. World War II forced the shop to close during the 1940s. It reopened in 1960 at the Lloyd Center in northeast Portland. Over the following decades, it became the longest-tenured tenant at the shopping center. The Lloyd Center permanently closed on Aug. 8, 2026.

The new Washington Square location will offer several specific flavors of popcorn. These include Carmel corn, cheddar cheese, white cheddar, and kettle corn. The menu also features Oregon-style popcorn, which blends caramel and yellow cheese varieties. The shop will also sell caramel apples and other baked goods.

The business stated that it has been creating sweet memories for generations of Portland families since 1932. It expressed excitement about continuing that tradition at the new home in the Washington Square mall. The move represents a shift for a legacy brand that has been associated with the Lloyd Center for over sixty years.
