Ukraine’s military leadership contends that Russian forces utilized the recent humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshky to fortify their tactical footing.
According to a report issued by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian units engaged in systematic rotations during the truce. Commanders state that Moscow expanded anti-drone measures along supply roads and increased the scale of logistics operations, specifically noting the delivery of additional ammunition to forward positions.
The General Staff emphasized that Ukrainian forces strictly adhered to the terms of the agreement. The statement noted that while Ukrainian units observed the silence, Russian commanders used the pause to strengthen their defensive lines and improve their operational readiness in the region.
The temporary halt in fighting began at 03:00 on October 27, as announced by Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights. Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed the arrangement, which was set to expire at 22:59 on November 1. Lubinets declared the end of the ceasefire on the evening of November 1, asserting that both parties had honored their commitments throughout the six-day period.
The pause facilitated a humanitarian operation that moved aid supplies to residents in Oleshky. Ukrainian citizens who opted to leave the temporarily occupied area traveled through Russia and Belarus to reach Ukrainian territory. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on October 31 that the operation had concluded successfully, with all evacuees crossing the state border in Chernihiv Oblast.
