Liberty wins tiebreaker to secure playoff spot

Liberty football secured the final 3A KingCo playoff spot with a 21-3 victory over Inglemoor in the second game of a three-team tiebreaker on October 27 at Issaquah High School. After falling to Mercer Island 10-7 in the first game of the tiebreaker, Liberty (8-2) bounced back to defeat Inglemoor (7-2), showing incredible resilience according to head coach Steve Valach. The Patriots had only two quarters to score 21 points and punch their ticket to the postseason. Inglemoor initially led 3-0 but Liberty responded with a quarterback sneak from Colton Hollerbach to take a lead they would never surrender at 7-3. The senior quarterback stepped in after an injury to freshman quarterback Myles Motley and stepped up to secure the win. Junior defensive back and wide receiver Danny Grabowski also had a redemption arc, recovering from a critical fumble against Mercer Island with an interception returned for a touchdown to extend Liberty’s lead to 14-3. Liberty added another touchdown in the final moments of the fourth quarter and got a stop in the final minute of the game. The Patriots will now play a week 10 playoff game against a team to be announced later.
