Jay-Z will perform the halftime show at Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027. The announcement confirms the 56-year-old rapper as the headliner for the game scheduled at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This marks the first time the New York native will occupy the center stage of the NFL's most-watched event.
Roc Nation, Jay-Z's company, currently holds the contract to produce the halftime show. The partnership began in 2019 when the label secured the rights to curate the performance. Since then, the 89-time Grammy nominee has served as a primary decision-maker in selecting future artists. The selection process for this specific date concluded with Jay-Z choosing himself for the slot.
The announcement arrived via a video released across social media platforms. The clip featured the track "Public Service Announcement" playing in the background while Jay-Z sat on a stage. In a press release accompanying the video, the artist reflected on his career trajectory. "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," Jay-Z said. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the decision had been in the works for several years. Goodell noted that when Roc Nation first agreed to produce the show, he made one specific request. "I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," Goodell said. He expressed excitement for fans to witness the artist's "artistry, creativity and cultural impact" on the field.
The stadium hosting the game is home to both the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers. The event is scheduled for Valentine's Day. While no special guests have been officially named, the NFL has a history of including surprise appearances. Beyoncé, Jay-Z's wife, is a frequent candidate for such slots. She headlined the 2013 halftime show and joined Coldplay and Bruno Mars in 2016. She also sang the national anthem in Houston in 2001 and performed at a Christmas Day game in 2024.
Jay-Z is currently on the JAŸ-Z30 Tour. The tour celebrates the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and the 25th anniversary of Blueprint. The performance will be his second stint on the halftime stage after his 2001 anthem performance. The most recent rapper to headlined the show was Kendrick Lamar, who performed two years ago with SZA. Other hip-hop artists who have headlined the event this decade include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Lil Jon.
The halftime show remains the most-watched performance segment of the year. Last year, Bad Bunny filled the role. The 2027 performance will be Jay-Z's first time leading the halftime act in any capacity. The selection follows the standard procedure where Roc Nation selects the primary artist for the slot. The video announcement served as the official notification to the public.
The game will determine the NFL champion for the 2026 season. The halftime segment typically lasts about 12 minutes. Jay-Z's inclusion on the roster of headliners places him alongside other major figures in music history. The specific setlist has not been revealed. The production team from Roc Nation will oversee the technical aspects of the performance. The date falls in mid-February, aligning with the standard Super Bowl schedule.
