San Diego Wave FC clinched the second seed in the National Women's Soccer League playoffs with a 1-0 victory over Bay FC on Sunday afternoon. The win marked the club's 18th of the season and guarantees a spot in next year's Concacaf W Champions Cup. The goal came in the ninth minute from rookie defender Mimi Van Zanten, securing the top-two placement for the eight-team postseason bracket.

Despite the on-field success, the Wave faces a logistical hurdle for the quarterfinal on Friday at 7 p.m. on Prime Video. Coach Jonas Eidevall said the team is focused on performance rather than venue logistics. "My focus and the team's focus is to perform and do the best at that," Eidevall noted, acknowledging that the top-two spot offers the possibility of hosting two games. He added that the priority remains qualifying for the semifinals before worrying about other details.

The scheduling conflict arises because both semifinal matches are locked into specific network television slots. One game is set for Saturday, Nov. 14, at 9 a.m. PST on CBS, while the other airs Sunday, Nov. 15, at noon PST on ABC. Unlike most NWSL matches streamed on flexible platforms, these broadcasts require fixed time windows. The higher seeds typically hold the home advantage for these rounds, but both top teams have existing commitments at their home stadiums on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Snapdragon Stadium is booked for a San Diego State football game against Utah State at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 14. Hosting a soccer match earlier that day would likely not allow enough time to re-line the field for the football game. Meanwhile, top-seeded NJ/NY Gotham FC has a conflict at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, where the New York Red Bulls will play an international friendly against Mexico's Club América that night.

Only one of the top seeds can host the Saturday match, and league norms suggest the top seed gets preference. This could force the Wave to play the Sunday game or seek an alternate venue. A club spokesperson indicated they would provide updates on the semifinal site and date on Monday. The NWSL confirmed the semifinal dates and networks on its website but has not yet specified which teams will host.

If the Wave cannot use Snapdragon Stadium, Torero Stadium is a potential fallback, where the club played its inaugural season in 2022. However, that venue seats only about 5,000 spectators, raising questions about its suitability for a national CBS telecast. The NWSL championship game is already scheduled for Nov. 21 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
