Two 18-year-old men face a 10-year felony charge after police linked them to a series of car window break-ins in New Baltimore and Chesterfield Township.
Investigators began the case after receiving multiple reports of vehicles having their windows shot out with a pellet gun. The incidents occurred over a three-day period last week. Detectives from the Macomb Auto Theft Squad assisted local police in reviewing footage from Flock cameras. The video allowed officers to identify the suspect vehicle as a white electric vehicle and track its movement.
On Wednesday, October 28, officers located the car near the intersection of M-29 and Washington Street in New Baltimore. They conducted a traffic stop and arrested the two occupants without incident. A pellet gun was found inside the vehicle during the stop.
Joshua Bongiorno of Chesterfield Township and Ibraham Polus of Sterling Heights are the two individuals charged. Each was charged with one count of malicious destruction of property. The value of the damage is estimated to be over $20,000, which elevates the charge to a felony. Both suspects were released on a $50,000 bond.
Detective Connell with the Chesterfield Township Police Department is handling the investigation. He has asked residents with additional information to call 586-949-3829.
