Kyrin Arthur, born in 2008, was arrested in Cheyenne and charged with felony robbery and resisting arrest following a multi-officer pursuit on Oct. 13. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. He is presumed innocent until a plea or verdict is entered.
Police officers responded to a call on Custer Street and Pawnee Avenue in north Cheyenne at approximately 3:45 a.m. They reported seeing two masked teens checking vehicles. One suspect was spotted hiding behind a pickup truck several streets from the initial report. When an officer approached, the teen fled on foot.
A second officer located Arthur in a different part of the neighborhood. He attempted to run but was caught. A third officer stopped their pursuit when they found a 9mm Sig Sauer P365 handgun and a cellphone where Arthur had been standing. A fanny pack he was wearing held multiple 9mm rounds.
While officers searched for the second teen, dispatch received a report of someone trespassing in a nearby backyard. A homeowner confronted the suspect. The teen ran when he saw a police drone, dropping his backpack. Officers captured him several houses away in another backyard.
The backpack contained a Garmin Inreach satellite communicator, a Leupold rangefinder, and a box of ammunition. Police used the phone number listed in the Garmin device to identify the owner. The owner, preparing for a hunting trip the following day, reported finding his backpack stolen from his car.
The hunter’s wife provided doorbell camera footage showing a masked teen wearing the same clothing as Arthur breaking into the vehicle. The theft occurred in a neighborhood nearly 3 miles from the arrest site. Arthur’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12 to determine if the case will be assigned to the Laramie County District Court. He was released on a $10,000 cash bond.
