The entertainment industry has long debated the legacy of a 2004 performance that defined a generation of pop culture. Now, a new documentary series aims to settle some of those debates. Justin Timberlake is preparing to discuss his past in a four-part docuseries scheduled to debut on Apple TV+ in December 2026. The project is directed by Fisher Stevens and will take a candid look at the singer's career.

Sources familiar with the production tell Variety that the series will focus on specific controversies that have followed Timberlake for two decades. The central narrative will likely revolve around his relationship with Janet Jackson and the events of the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show. During that performance, Timberlake removed part of Jackson's outfit, creating a moment of exposure that viewers later termed Nipplegate. The incident resulted in hundreds of thousands of complaints and a formal investigation by the Federal Communications Commission.

While Jackson absorbed much of the public criticism at the time, Timberlake continued to build a successful music career. He later offered a public apology to Jackson. In that apology, he acknowledged that he had benefited from a system that tolerated misogyny and racism. The documentary will reportedly revisit these dynamics and their long-term impact on their professional relationship.

The series will also address his former relationship with Britney Spears. Spears detailed their history in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. In the book, she shared personal accounts of their breakup, including allegations of infidelity and the stress surrounding an unexpected pregnancy. Timberlake will have the opportunity to respond to these specific claims in the new footage.

The announcement of the series follows a period of personal health challenges for the artist. He revealed a diagnosis of Lyme disease in July 2025. Before that, a drunk driving arrest in 2024 generated significant media attention. Representatives for Timberlake, Jackson, and Apple have not yet officially confirmed the details of the project.
