House Democrats Will Issue Subpoenas to Audit Trump Administration
New committee chairs plan to probe Epstein ties, war costs, and executive spending during the 2027 session.

The incoming House majority will use its full investigatory powers to examine the Trump administration's financial dealings, foreign policy decisions, and internal operations. This approach shifts the legislative focus from passing new laws to auditing the executive branch. The strategy responds to public dissatisfaction with government spending and perceived leadership failures.
Rep. Robert Garcia of California, who is expected to lead the House Oversight Committee, told the White House to "LAWYER UP." He described the upcoming sessions as a period of intense scrutiny for the administration. Garcia aims to leverage compelled testimony and subpoenas to extract information that previous bipartisan efforts failed to secure.
A central target of these probes will be the Jeffrey Epstein case. Democrats argue that earlier document releases contained improper redactions that obscured key relationships. Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, stated that testimony from 11 women reveals a more serious connection between Epstein and the president than a casual acquaintance. The committee plans to investigate ties between Epstein and other powerful figures.
The investigation will also cover the financial interests of the president and his family. Lawmakers intend to review business ventures such as Truth Social, cryptocurrency projects, and overseas investments involving his sons. Garcia linked these private dealings to the rising cost of living, noting that stock trading by members of Congress and dark money flows worsen the economic crisis for ordinary Americans.
Immigration policy will face close examination following high-profile incidents in Minnesota where two U.S. citizens were killed. Democrats documented hundreds of alleged abuse cases while in the minority. Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington called Immigration and Customs Enforcement a rogue agency causing generational trauma. She emphasized the need for congressional hearings to protect communities from agent violence.
Public health oversight will focus on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Lawmakers will revisit a June report alleging that the administration undermined scientific research and health infrastructure. The new term will include specific inquiries into recent policy decisions and their impact on chronic and deadly diseases.
Staffers plan to review executive projects that bypassed congressional appropriations. This includes the remodeling of the White House East Wing and the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The White House has repeatedly disregarded congressional declarations and rescinded approved spending for these initiatives. This practice has sparked a constitutional dispute over the power of the purse.
