Ordinary voters in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District sent a 26-year-old to Washington. Michael Alfonso secured the seat with 56% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. His Democratic opponent, Fred Clark, received 43% of the vote with 96% of precincts reporting.

Alfonso will hold the distinction of being the youngest member of the incoming Congress. He is also the first member born in the current century. This marks a generational shift for the district, which covers the northwestern and central parts of the state. The area includes communities along the Lake Superior shoreline, Superior, Wausau, and Marshfield.

The victory links Alfonso directly to the federal administration. He is married to Evita Duffy, the eldest daughter of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The couple has a baby daughter named Rosita. Alfonso is stepping into a political lane previously occupied by his father-in-law, who represented the district from 2011 to 2019.

He will replace Republican Representative Tom Tiffany. Tiffany served the district before Alfonso’s emergence. The result reflects a transfer of local political capital within the Duffy family circle. Rachel Campos-Duffy, a Fox News personality and member of the family, celebrated the outcome on social media.

Campos-Duffy described the win as a sign of hope during a challenging election night. She praised Alfonso and her daughter for their hard work. The district’s map places it in a region where urban centers like Wausau sit alongside rural areas near the state border. Alfonso’s election concludes the cycle for this specific seat.

The vote count was certified by the Associated Press as the race progressed. Alfonso’s margin over Clark stood at 13 percentage points in the final tallies. This outcome positions him to serve in the new Congress. He joins a body where few members share his age profile.
