Elon Musk has intensified his financial support for Republican candidates by injecting more than $76 million into the midterm election race during the first two weeks of October.

According to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening, America PAC, the political committee associated with the billionaire, deployed nearly $43 million in this short period. The organization entered the final phase of the campaign with a cash reserve of approximately $47 million, signaling a robust capacity for further spending in the coming days.

The Texas Senate contest became the primary focus of this new wave of expenditure. The PAC allocated $15.2 million to the state, a figure that is double the total amount spent there during the entire summer season. Of this sum, $12.4 million was directed toward advertisements criticizing Democratic candidate James Talarico, while $2.8 million supported Republican contender Ken Paxton. Subsequent daily filings indicate an additional $9.1 million spent against Talarico, bringing the cumulative total of spending against him to nearly $28 million. This represents roughly 40 percent of all funds the PAC has deployed to either support or oppose candidates in this cycle.

The committee also marked a strategic shift in its media buying strategy. In the same two-week window, America PAC spent $11.4 million on digital advertisements. This amount is nearly equivalent to the combined total spent on traditional mail and text messaging campaigns, highlighting a move toward online engagement in the final stretch.

These recent contributions bring Musk's total giving to Republican political groups this election cycle to more than $445 million. An analysis of Federal Election Commission filings confirms that he is currently the largest known individual donor for the midterms. Of that total, more than $165 million has been transferred to America PAC since July. The PAC itself did not provide a comment regarding the new filing.

Musk, who maintains headquarters for major companies such as Tesla and SpaceX in Texas, has also actively engaged in the campaign discourse on social media. On Wednesday, he posted on X that there is something deeply wrong with Talarico. He further described the candidate as a creep and asserted without cited evidence that Talarico would vote to take away children and transition them. Earlier in the month, Musk amplified a claim that Talarico had received treatment at a mental health facility. Talarico responded to these remarks by stating that there is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator.

Despite the significant financial outlay, the Texas race remains competitive. An Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters, conducted between October 17 and 19, placed Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent. This margin falls within the poll's three-point range of error, indicating a close contest.

The financial stakes for Musk extend beyond the immediate Senate results. Democratic leaders have indicated that if their party secures control of the House, they will investigate Musk's role in the Department of Government Efficiency, as well as his companies' federal contracts. Representative Zoe Lofgren of California has described the number of conflicts of interest as astounding. Additionally, a group of Silicon Valley Democrats, including Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna, sent a letter to the White House demanding scrutiny of SpaceX's Starshield satellite service in Ukraine. They vowed that the next Congress will closely examine federal funding awarded to Musk's businesses.
