Drivers in the lower parts of Phuket Island had to steer clear of specific streets on Monday as floodwaters lingered after a night of heavy rain. The storms flooded all three districts of the province, including the capital, Phuket City. Provincial deputy governor Romdon Hayiawae said water levels began dropping by late morning, though some areas remained submerged.

Hayiawae reported that approximately 100 households were affected by the flooding. He stated there were no reports of casualties. Officials focused on clearing mudslides that threatened to block local canals, a task meant to keep waterways open as the rain continued.

Visual evidence from social media showed water entering residential zones and covering roads to the point where they could not be used. Some vehicles were partially buried in piles of mud and rocks left behind by the receding water.

The Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning for heavy and continuous rain in the southern region through Wednesday. Forecasters cautioned that the persistent weather could trigger additional flash floods and landslides.

This event continues a pattern of severe weather in Thailand that has persisted since mid-September. According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, at least 83 people have died from the flooding as of Monday. Bangkok experienced similar inundation in late September, which forced thousands of residents to leave their homes.
